November 2021 was an exciting month as we celebrated the 650th anniversary of the granting of our first ordinances. The celebrations started on 4th November with a banquet at Guildhall where 180 Wax Chandlers and their guests enjoyed a wonderful evening in the presence of HRH the Duke of Gloucester.
The next excitement was our float for the Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday 13th November. The Master sat on his throne on the float in a beautiful knitted garden surrounded by felt bees. In keeping with our aim for sustainability everything we used was either recycled, up-cycled or borrowed.
On Sunday 14th November we held a thanksgiving service at St Vedast’s Church. An eight voice choir led by organist Jo Ramadan filled the church with music of thanksgiving and inspiration including the new company anthem written by Anna Simple (click here for score). Using words from our grace and an exciting contemporary composition we were transported into the garden with the sound of individual bees leading up to a great Amen and the crescendo of a swarm.
